ATI’s father William Molemogi spoke about his son ATI’ struggle with drug addiction, asserting that negative influences or peer pressure has hindered ATI’s recovery efforts. Despite multiple attempts at rehabilitation, Molemogi believes that the presence of ATI’s companions consistently pulled him back into the cycle of substance abuse.
“ATI struggled, he struggled with his weaknesses, he struggled with drugs. I remember we took him to rehab about five times. However every time he arrives his friends took him back to drugs.”
The Vice President Ndaba Gaolathe has joined the nation in sending messages of comfort to the family, friends and the fans of the late rapper A.T.I. In a statement on his Facebook page, Gaolathe described A.T.I. as a messenger of hope, a defender of the nation’s identity and a proud son of this land who used his honor to amplify stories of this world.
He remembered his power performances and moments when the whole crowds moved as one, drawn together by the honesty of his craft. Gaolathe said A.T.I.’s craft was of today’s generation, yearning for recognition, justice and belonging. His courage embodied a patriot who loved his country and refused to be silent about his truths.
The burial is expected to take place in Lerala, the home village of ATI’s stepfather,
