The body of the late music star, A.T.I has arrived in Palapye ahead of the funeral on Saturday in Lerala.
ATI, whose real name was Atlasaone Molemogi, died on 31 August after a short hospital stay. He passed away shortly afterwards.
The statement described him as more than an entertainer, calling him a cultural force and a voice of hope whose music inspired courage and unity.
The family has requested privacy as they mourn and preparing for the funeral.
Botswana President Duma Boko was amongst people who came for memorial service.
Fans and fellow musicians have paid tribute on social media, remembering him as a national icon whose legacy will live on.
Pako Motswedi has claimed that drug dealers exploited late ATI by invading his home and taking advantage of his addiction. Dealers would go to ATI’s house in Block 5, cook in his kitchen, and wait for him to wake up so they could sell him more drugs. He said they only left when his money was finished.
Motswedi also claimed that he often found ATI collapsed next to his bed after drinking, and that he chased the dealers away, but they always returned when he was not around. He accused some of those who are mourning ATI publicly of being insincere, saying they were really grieving the loss of a “loyal customer” or a “sniffing partner.”
