Four suspects made their first appearance in court on the 22 July 2025 at Alexandra Magistrates Court. Out of those proceedings, it came out that three suspects were not ready or were not willing yet to apply for bail, as those suspects are currently in custody for another matter, not related to the killing of DJ Somebody.The fourth suspect was ready to apply for bail. However, he just got arrested a day before. He’s currently being kept at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Services.
SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe explained that, these three suspects are linked to three cases.
One being the Transnet engineer who was brutally killed outside his workplace. Later it was discovered that he was killed on basis of false identity. So upon the arrival of the political killing task team in Gauteng, they did get involved and went for a second opinion in terms of testing those weapons which were used to kill the engineer. They discovered that the same weapons used to kill the Transnet engineer, were linked to the killing of DJ Somebody.
She further explain that the very same weapons are linked to the attempted killing of actress, Tebogo Thobejane, who Mr Matlala is currently, facing charges of. However, the spokesperson emphasized that there are many other high-profile cases these weapons are linked to and more information will be communicated later.
