The longest season in Chelsea’s history has finally ended and Hollywood couldn’t have scripted a better ending.
Chelsea can now call themselves officially the FIFA Club World Champions for the next four years. They defied the odds , outplayed and outfought the mighty PSG. Cole Palmer was the star of the show. He scored two great goals and he set up a goal for João Pedro as well. This tournament was supposed to be about Messi, Mbappe, Dembele, Kane, but it ended up being all about Chelsea, Cole Palmer and Donald Trump.
We had Robbie Williams pre-match, we had Cole Play at half-time and we had the President of the United States taking center stage for the trophy presentation. The whole occasion was slightly surreal. The stadium was packed, the football was high quality and the FIFA President, Gianni Infantino looked like the happiest man in the world because his dream came true.
This tournament has been very controversial, but Chelsea don’t care about all that. This has put them back on the map and made Chelsea great again. Winning this trophy against such good opposition sends a big statement. I’m happy with how much the club has progressed and I hope next season we’ll be competing in the Premier League to win the title and competing to go far in the Champions League as well.
If you don’t believe in yourself and believe in what we are building, what chance do you have? Today we put on an amazing performance. We showed a different side to our game. We maybe didn’t play our best football, but we beat an amazing side. For the fans, they get bragging rights on every other club in the world. As a club we’ve won everything. I came to Chelsea to win trophies, and today I did. I’m very happy. Now I need to rest and start well the next season, these are some of the things said by the players.
One of the players explained about US President Donald Trump, “Before they told me that he was going to present the trophy and then exit the stage, and I thought that he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay.”
